Unfortunately this was not a good experience with this law firm. I received a demand letter from another attorney and was looking for council. My wife found them online and did a quick consult with Ruben. She asked him to contact me directly for my version of events, but he did not want to do this. On 3/18/25; She was able to provide him with limited information and then faxed in a few documents. Then a week went by without hearing anything. My wife sent Ruben an email explaining that we were surprised/frustrated that we had not been in contact with anyone yet. At that point, I guess they felt like they should get in contact with their client and I then talked to Ruben briefly, and he assured me that they would review the documents and contact me before our March 30th deadline. Being that the 30th was on a Sunday, I made sure they were aware and that we needed iron something out before that deadline. On Friday 3/28 at 1pm; we still had no contact from Justin or Ruben. My wife was worried and sent an email to Ruben explaining we still had not heard ANYTHING from Justin. An hour later, I received an email that I should just do what the demand letter suggested and settle for $20,000, without ever talking to Justin about my case. Obviously, I was blown away at the lack of professionalism. I had paid a $1000 retainer and never heard from the actual attorney. It was at that point that I called and emailed, and let them know that I was very upset with this situation. Ruben then called me, but basically talked over me the whole time, suggesting that I just go ahead and settle. Eventually, he set up an appointment for Justin to call me in five days. Justin did call, and when we discussed my case, I asked him if he had seen my email that I had sent him that morning, and unfortunately he had not even read that. He recommended that I just go ahead and settle, and gave me various reasons such as the Duval court system being in disarray. The bottom line is I got a second opinion, and I had to fire this law firm. It took one response letter from my new attorney and my whole situation went away and saved me $20,000. I did ask for a refund from my retainer and they did return $230 of the $1000 I paid. However, the icing on the cake with this firm was, when I received my invoice they charged me $28.65 just to discuss, amongst themselves, how to refund my money. Obviously, I cannot recommend the law offices of Justin McMurray.
