We contacted Chris of Postillion Law Group LLC via MetLife Legal for a probate case due to a death in the family in late May of 2025. Met the second week of June to better understand our to-do list & process a payment for services.
We were quoted two prices for services. There was a $3.5K payment for a summary (if the estate is valued less than 75k) or $5K payment for a formal (if the estate is valued more than 75k). We were unaware at the time of the value for our family member’s estate, so we left Chris with $5K until we knew more about the value of the estate. We did this in hopes to avoid wasting more of Chris’ time, possibly having to meet back up for another payment. At the time, we understood that after the probate was settled, we would be refunded our payment of 3.5k or 5k before any of the assets were dispersed. This understanding of a refund was spoken about several times throughout the process of probate. We were also told we would have a receipt sent to us via email, but we still have never received any receipt of initial payment.
We were made aware in late July that the final payment was not a formal probate case ($5K) & we would be reimbursed for what’s left of the 5k. Sometime in August we were told on a brief phone call that the attorney had written a check for a little over $800 as reimbursement. We never gained any clear understanding of why we weren’t refunded the full 1.5k of the initial 5k we left with Chris. He only rattled off different additional fees that were not stated or agreed upon in our initial meeting in June, leaving him with $5k. We were told two weeks in a row that the reimbursement check was mailed out, but we never received it. In mid-September, we offered to go to the office to pick it up, because the reimbursement check never came in the mail.
Throughout working with Chris at Postillion Law Group since late May, we communicated primarily via text. We received a snub response to many of the questions we asked regarding the probate process. There were several snide & unprofessional remarks made in person or on telephone calls while working with Chris as well.
We felt that we had made an inconvenient impact on their day-to-day lives as attorneys in most of our interactions. Even in our last conversation via text regarding the receipt that we never received. We were told that our attorney didn’t have time for this. He then asked us to postpone requesting that the receipt be sent for more than 12 days. We’ve now followed up twice after waiting more than 12 days & have received no response or receipt.
Upon completion of probate, there was no communication. After nearly five months of communication via text, four phone calls, one email thread & one in person meeting; our attorney sent an email that got lost in our spam folder with no notification via other channels of communication. In the end, he provided a snub response to make us aware that the refunded payment would only be applied to the 5k payment for a formal probate case. Since we did not do a formal probate case, we could only speak on the payment being refunded between us and the heirs.
We get it -- misunderstandings happen. But we had spoken about that refund several times throughout the past 5 months & to witness in writing Chris being this short when clarifying for us while in the same sentence saying that he didn’t have time for us. This really made it clear to us, a review needed to be written for potential future clients. Hope this helps, 10 out of 10 would not recommend working with this law group.
