In 2021, I was unexpectedly visited at my office by two federal agents who questioned me about an investigation they were conducting that involved an external lab for urine drug screenings and the pain management clinic I own. After the meeting, they served me with a letter from the Department of Justice that said I was the target of a federal criminal investigation for health care fraud, wire fraud, and anti-kickback laws (up to 20 years in prison). I couldn’t believe this was happening to me! Thankfully, I was referred to Barry Wax. He immediately began his own investigation, spending hours interviewing my employees, speaking with the prosecutor, and explaining to me exactly what was happening. Barry listened to and believed in me when I insisted I was not guilty and had done nothing wrong. When I got indicted, Barry fought for me every step of the way. He was supportive, encouraging, and optimistic about defending me at trial. The prosecutor kept offering me a deal to plead guilty, even up until the day before the trial began when two codefendants pleaded guilty and were going to testify against me. I refused to plead guilty to a crime I did not commit, and Barry agreed. For 6 ½ weeks, Barry fought for me in the courtroom – his cross-examinations of the government’s witnesses showed that everything they testified about me was false, and the jury found me Not Guilty!
Placing my faith in Barry as my lawyer and defender was the best decision I made. Even when I was afraid, and things didn’t look like they were going my way, Barry reassured me to believe in myself and my decision to go to trial because I was not guilty. After four long years, I got my life back and can breathe again. I owe my future to him, and I am eternally grateful for his expertise, guidance, and compassion during the most difficult period of my life.
