Filing for bankruptcy was a huge decision for me. I tried other methods to alleviate my debt, but ultimately I found myself in an unwinnable situation. Anyone who finds themselves in the same situation, where the so called "debt relief" companies promise you reduced payments to the credit card issues, in lieu of bankruptcy, do yourself a favor and file bankruptcy immediately. I spent 18 months paying faithfully into the "payment program" in order to pay off my credit card debt, only to have the goal posts moved on me when the law group handling the debt relief negotiations informed me that I would have to increase my monthly payment by double the originally negotiated payment amount, they also lengthened the term of payments from 36 months to 48. Needless to say, I found myself in a position I had not imagined. I immediately set out to find relief. I researched numerous avenues, but everything pointed to filing bankruptcy. I prayed, looked diligently for a lawyer who had the experience I needed to help me through this.
