First of all, the receptionist and legal assistant are great and nice if you treat them with respect. That’s the only reason he’s getting 2 stars. He on the other hand is not respectful very much at all.
My first call with Alain was scheduled at 4pm the day before my traffic trial. He was unavailable until past 5pm and did not even apologize for me having to call back multiple times for an hour to finally talk.
Overall, how it went is he didn’t care about the way I wanted him to argue my case and he gave me his schpeel about trying to get it dismissed and, if not we “should” be able to get it down to a $150 fine. He said not to show up to the hearing at all, in-person or virtually. He said to let him do his job and to trust his experience. So I did.
Turns out he passed my case on to another lawyer without giving me notice and didn’t even pass on the details from how I said I wanted my defense to be argued. In Clip 11 I ask him directly if he told the actual-representative lawyer my details and he avoids directly answering by saying “we had a pretty extensive conversation”. We had a 34 minute phone call and it wasn’t until 30 minutes in when I luckily asked him directly if he even went to the hearing and he admitted that another off-counsel lawyer represented me. 47 seconds after getting this new knowledge I’m explaining/processing how I didn’t even get to talk to this lawyer or share the details and he cuts me off to say “Anthony, you’re going in circles” (Clip 9).
I wonder if this is why he told me not to show up to the trial, in-person or virtually.
After he says the words “I will do whatever makes you happy”, I explained that the best bet is probably to just give me my $200 back, and 25 seconds later he refuses and says “No, I’m not going to do that. You can do whatever you want. End of conversation” and hangs up on me.
This guy is just condescending and rude. He called me “unreasonable” (Clip 10). He said I have a “skewed” view of how the court works. He wanted to know if I’d go into court “and fall on [my own] sword” (Clip 8). He said “obviously you’re not going to be happy with anything.” He cut me off multiple times with “No no no no…” or “Anthony Anthony Anthony”, and one time to say “No, hell no Anthony” (Clip 7).
After being hung up on, I sent an email explaining how I’m unhappy that his representation of me was severely lacking and that I’m willing to leave the issue at rest if my money is refunded (of course what is $200 to a lawyer who “will do whatever makes [me] happy”). I called twice and they assured me he will get the message, and I never received a reply or confirmation of receipt. I guess I’m so unimportant of a client I don’t even get that anymore. Well he’s earned a Florida Bar complaint from all this; hopefully they impose a discipline/sanction.
